Decades ago, it was a gift to be asked to attend a Singapore Math workshop. I wondered, "If Singapore is number one in the world for math achievement, why aren't we using it?" I took my son through the Singapore Math curriculum starting from the beginning. Being a math teacher, I was super impressed when he was in the fourth grade and was doing math problems faster than I was! I was so excited to share this program that I taught a week long workshop at the MSSM Educators' Camp. A high school teacher was in awe that his high school students were trying to solve the same problems that fifth grade Singapore Math students were easily solving using the unit bar method. Singapore Math is for students in grades 1 to 7.
